DANDRUFF: CAUSES AND TREATMENTS

Dandruff can be annoying, Imagine you open your hair in the public and your root hair is full of dandruff. This can be embarrassing. Even though dandruff also comes as a result of an unkempt hair, not all cases is because of dirtiness.

The skin on the scalp might flake due to a common ailment called dandruff. It's not dangerous or communicable. On the other hand, it can be awkward and challenging to treat. The itching could also be present.

In some cases, dandruff can be seen like white dust in the hair, this is because it is not yet serious and can be easily treated with shampoo.

CAUSES OF DANDRUFF

  • DRY SKIN: People mostly with dry skin are likely to get affected by dandruff. In many cases, dandruff is brought on by dry skin. Sadly, if this is the cause of your dandruff, it may aggravate itself during the dry season. The skin requires an amount of oil to stabilize the skin and when this is lacking, the skin tends to be flaky. This flaking is mostly seen on the head and this results to dandruff.
  • EXCESSIVE OIL ON THE HEAD: The hair is to have oil but it should not be too much as it can result to dandruff. Sebum, the skin's natural oil, produces more when the scalp is oily, which causes this condition. Eczema on the scalp, is one condition that can result from this and cause dandruff. It is important to note as you ensure that the hair is sufficiently oiled, you must make sure it is not in excess.
  • UNHYGIENIC SCALP: How often you wash and shampoo your hair, go a long way to reduce any form of hair condition. I recommend you wash your hair once a week. But if you have a wig installed or a braided hair, It is necessary to do some thorough hair treatments before and after. Your dandruff may be caused by not shampooing sufficiently, despite the unhygienic seeming explanation. Because oil builds up on the skin when you don't shampoo it sufficiently, it can lead to dandruff.
  • YEAST OVERGROWTH: The presence of yeast on the scalp also causes dandruff. Whenever this yeast overgrows, your scalp develops a dry, itchy rash as a result. Your scalp will get itchy due to a scalp yeast infection.  A yeast infection on the scalp can be brought on by a variety of circumstances, but the main underlying cause is an overgrowth of yeast.

TREATMENTS FOR DANDRUFF

  • PROPER SHAMPOOING: Treatment of dandruff depends on the way you wash your hair. Shampooing is very important when washing your hair. Shampoo provides the hair with enough vitamins and softens the hair root. It also tends to reduce any much oil on the scalp. Use enough shampoo while washing and washing should be done at lease once a week. If the dandruff is mild, I advice you use your go to shampoo but if it is a severe one, using medicated shampoo is advisable.

  • COCONUT OIL: Coconut oil is one of the home remedies used to treat dandruff. For dandruff treatment and prevention, coconut oil can be used to the scalp up to twice per week. When used excessively, it might aggravate some skin disorders and lead to oily, greasy skin.  Use it no more than a couple of times each week until the dandruff is gone.

  • ASPIRIN: Aspirin is also an effective remedy for dandruff. Applying aspirin-laced shampoo to your scalp could help exfoliate skin flakes and lessen the irritation that leads to dandruff. Buy your aspirin from the pharmacy, pick 2 uncoated tablets and break it into a fine powder. Take your shampoo choice and pour your Aspirin powder into it, mix well. Apply the mixture to the hair while in the shower, then let it sit for a short while before rinsing it out.

  • BAKING SODA: A simple, practical, and easily accessible treatment for dandruff is baking soda. Apply baking soda to your scalp and wet hair and massage it in for the greatest effects. Keep shampooing your hair as normally after letting it sit for a few minutes. You can use a teaspoon of baking soda, add your lemon juice and ginger extract, mix together and apply into the scalp.

  • ALOE VERA: Aloe Vera is more effective when your dandruff is mild. The anti-itching and anti-fungal qualities of aloe vera can lessen dandruff as well as soothe itchy scalp. Collect aloe vera leaves and extract the gel by hand. Before washing, directly apply it to your scalp and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes.
