TOP 5 FITNESS MYTHS YOU THINK ARE TRUE… BY BLOGILATES

Hey guys!
Let me ask you this…
How many times have you heard that carbs are bad? Or doing crunches all day will get you a six pack? Or that you need to do lots and lots of cardio to lose weight?
Well, today I’m going to address some of the most common health and fitness myths out there and share with you a better solution instead!
Myth #1 – Crunches are the key to flat abs.
Want flat abs? CRUNCHES ALL DAY! Just kidding.
Doing ab exercises like crunches or sit-ups are great for strengthening your core.  But know that ab exercises aren’t the magic ingredient to flat abs and a toned tummy. You need to ensure you are burning body fat so your ab muscles can actually show through! HIIT routines like PIIT28 paired with eating clean are IT.
Doing my POP Pilates videos will DEFINITELY help build those core muscles, but you’ll notice that my workouts contain a lot more than just crunches. We do movements that encourage you to truly engage your core by pressing your back into the mat and lifting into Pilates stance. Right THERE you are working your abs a lot more than doing 100 fast sit-ups. Moves like double leg lifts, hip twists, and train track abs will truly strengthen your abs like crazy! Pair them with HIIT and you will see results!
Here’s a great fat-burning ab routine you can do!

Myth #2 – Carbs are bad.
We hear it over and over again and again – that carbs are bad and should be avoided. But this is WRONG WRONG WRONG!
We need carbs to provide us with ENERGY. And I’m not just talking energy to do our workouts, but energy to simply live, work, think and exists. Have you avoided carbs before and then felt super groggy, drained and even confused? That’s because your brain NEEDS those carbs to function. Generalizing that carbs are bad is just silly.
Did you know that fruits and vegetables are carbs too? Healthy grains like oats and quinoa are also carbs. Not just white bread, white rice and pasta! Healthy non-refined, non-processed carbs are part of a healthy diet! They also carry fiber which keeps us full longer.
Stick to healthy carbs in your regular diet, and try to avoid those not-so-healthy carbs like donuts, cakes and pastries on a regular basis. Even though they are delicious, they aren’t good for our waistline or our health. But of course, enjoy them in moderation because that’s what a balanced diet is all about!
Myth #3 – You can spot reduce fat.
Unfortunately this isn’t true. We all carry more fat in different areas of our bodies. Some of us carry it in our thighs, others in our tummies, or even our arms. So doing a million crunches like I mentioned before won’t flatten your stomach. Doing doing 100 squats won’t lean out your thighs. Doing cardio will help, but we all tend to lose fat in certain areas more than others, and even quicker than others. Hence why the boobs tend to go first! Sad, I know.
So, now it’s time to check in with your diet. Remember, nutrition is responsible for a HUGE part of weight loss. Eating clean, whole nutritious foods and removing processed foods is the best way to help with this. Our bodies are all shaped differently and genetically carry more weight in some areas than others. So it may be easier for one person to maintain a six-pack, but someone who carries more weight in their stomach area will find it harder. It’s about working with YOUR body and doing what you can to enhance your beautiful features.
Myth #4 – Strength training will make you big and bulky.
Many women are afraid to strength train and lift weights because they think they will get all bulky and manly, but that is NOT TRUE! What is “bulky” anyways!? What strength training WILL do is build beautiful lean muscle mass that will show through. It actually decreases body fat and you’ll look leaner even though you have more muscle on you!
And besides looks, you’ll BE STRONGER not just in your workouts, but in every day life. Don’t be afraid to get stronger and push your limits. The results will surprise you.. in a GOOD way! Oh, and another reason many women are afraid to lift weights is because they think they number on the scale will go up. They will gain weight! This may be true, but remember, assess your progress by how you feel, what you can do and progress pics!
Myth #5 – Cardio is the answer to weight loss.
Running for hours on the cardio machine is not the answer to losing weight. So if you do that and you are miserable about it, know that you don’t have to! Of course, if you enjoy it, then do it!
I’m all about doing what makes you happy! But it’s common for people to think that long amounts of cardio is the answer to weight loss. That’s not true. What is more effective is strength training combined with HIIT workouts. Just like my PIIT28 program does – it combines the two!
This is Alexia’s 28 Day transformation. Incredible what effective workouts and clean eating can do! See how she did it here.
This is beautiful Corina! You can read her transformation story here.
Why is it more effective? Because you turn into a fat-burning machine for over the next 24 hours (or more). Yep! Your metabolism boosts after your workout even when you’re sitting on the couch. Another element that is important here is nutrition. Eating healthy is just as important as exercise. You cannot out-exercise a bad diet. So combining a nutritious diet, with HIIT workouts and strength training will get you to your goals much quicker than hours on the treadmill.
There you have it! 5 of the most common health and fitness myths. Which one were you once fooled by?

10 WARDROBE BASICS EVERY CLOSET NEEDS BY JEN

Warmer weather is here and more than ever before, I've found myself crazy determined to kick off Spring cleaning in a big way. Although I'd love to go on a mad dash through the house throwing piles of random knick knacks into a box to Goodwill, that tactic truthfully never ends well and I always find it much wiser to assess the items that I actually love the best and work down from there. I'm talking about finding those joy-sparking items that will get you through the best and worst of times.(Anyone else a huge fan of the Kon Mari method? Oh man, it gets my organizational heart thumping. I'll probably do an entire blog post dedicated to that obsession in the future.)

Because I've found it so useful to keep a handful of favorite basics that can be mix-and-matched with just about anything, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of 10 workhorse wardrobe pieces that can be worn and re-worn to bits and help elevate any outfit.

Check out my video showing how to rocking these 10 basics here:

20 EXCEPTIONALLY EASY WAYS TO MAKE A HAIR STYLING GENIUS

Seriously, you'll be out the door before you know it.
KATHLEEN
1.Turn the bobby pin around so that the wavy side is up against your head to ensure that your style stays in place.
Posh blessing

Try turning the bobby pin over if you have trouble holding your hair in place. Compared to the wavy side, the straight side is slicker and less likely to grab.

2. For curls that will last longer if you have straight hair, roll your hair into a coil, cover it with foil, and flat iron it.

Posh blessing

Long-lasting, naturally-looking curls are produced thanks to the foil's ability to conduct heat and maintain the curl curled as it cools.

3. To add sophistication to your hairdo, fasten the end of a braid with a concealed bobby pin.

Posh blessing

Secure your braid by tying the ends in a knot and inserting a bobby pin upward. And so it is! an attractive braid free of ugly hair knots.

4. Use bobby pins to quickly create a simple, stylish updo in only a few seconds.

Using a teasing comb, tease the top of your head. Then, take a chunk of hair between your hairline and the crown of your head, and fasten it in place with bobby pins. Next, take a small strand of hair from your right frontal area, wrap it around your head, and fasten it with a bobby pin. Repeat these steps on the left side as well, and keep going until you've pulled back three or four portions on each side, switching up where the pins are placed each time. And voilà! a simple half-up hairstyle.

5. Give yourself a spontaneous updo with your headband.

Posh blessing

Grab an elastic headband and roll your hair over it to create a rolled tunnel bun, then pull it over your head to channel this cool-girl style.

6. To secure your style, use one Goody Spin Pin rather than multiple bobby pins.
Posh blessing

Twenty regular bobby pins can be replaced with 20 Goody Spin Pins. Securing your style, twist them into the center and proceed!

7. Secure a strand of hair around the base of your ponytail to cover the elastic.
Posh blessing

Take a piece of the ponytail, about the width of your pinky, and wrap it around the base of your ponytail once you've tied it. Place a bobby pin in to tuck in any loose ends and secure.

8. To make your hair appear thicker, lightly shade your scalp with eyeshadow that matches the color of your hair along your part
Posh blessing

This trick works in real life as well as in photos, giving the impression that your hair is extremely thick. If, for whatever reason, you don't like parting your hair, you can also use this hack along your hairline to achieve the same effect.

9. Recreate this DIY salt spray by mixing a teaspoon of sea salt with seltzer water.
Posh blessing

A teaspoon of sea salt and twenty ounces of seltzer water combined in a spray bottle will make a homemade ocean spritz if you don't have a favorite salt spray or just want to add some texture when you need it.

10.To ensure your hair stays tight during the braiding process, pull it back into a ponytail before starting the fishtail braid.

Pull your hair into a side ponytail before starting the fishtail braiding process to ensure the hair stays taut throughout the braid. Afterwards, trim the hair tie at the ends of your hair to reveal an exquisite and precisely formed plait.

11. To make it fuller, pull apart your braid.
Posh blessing

Gently tugging the hair pieces outward to widen the plait is a simple way to give the impression that your hair is thicker and fuller. However, take care not to pull it out too much as you could tear it apart.
12. Use a toothbrush or teasing brush to give milkmaid braids texture.
Posh blessing

For a worn-in appearance, French maid braids look best when they are slightly disheveled. Use a toothbrush or teasing brush to texturize the braids by brushing against their braiding pattern to achieve that effect instantly.

13. Use bobby pins to hold up your ponytail.
Posh blessing
Left: Before; Right: After
When your hair is secured in a ponytail, place two or three bobby pins halfway through the elastic, towards the top of your head. To achieve a fuller look that won't droop or sag, fluff your ponytail and flip it over.
14. Use the seat cover on your toilet to wipe away extra oil.
Posh blessing

You can wipe away extra oil from your hair with blotting paper, just like you would with your skin. Instead, use a clean toilet seat cover that you can retrieve from the restroom to blot your hair in an emergency situation when you don't have any blotting papers on hand. Since their composition is akin to that of blotting sheets, they are equally effective at absorbing surplus oil.
15. To achieve the illusion of a longer ponytail, stack two ponytails on top of one another.

Posh blessing

For girls who want to grow out their medium-length hair, this hack is especially helpful. All you have to do is gather your hair into two ponytails, one at the top of your head and the other at the nape of your neck. In moments, your ponytail will appear twice as long!

16. To achieve more fullness and volume, curl your hair, stack it atop your head, spray hairspray on the bottom of your hair, and then let it fall once your curls have cooled.

Posh blessing

The hair of Bardot.
17. Make imperfect waves in your hair by braiding it and then heating it with a flat iron.
Posh blessing

This tip will help you achieve that Kate Moss-like texture.

18. Try flat-ironing your hair in different ways to get wavy results.

Raise and lower your wrist as you work through a section of hair while holding your hair horizontally above your head to create a cool-girl, slightly curly texture.
19. To cover up grays or regrowth, use mascara on your roots.
Posh blessing

Use mascara that matches the color of your hair if you need to hide regrowth from roots or stray gray hair while you're in between salon appointments. Just be careful to wipe off some of the product to prevent your scalp and hair from being overly coated in formula.

20. For a side-swept appearance, pull a portion of your hair into a baby ponytail.
